Take out "Made Simple" from the title
By best book I have read in a while
This book covers a number of broad topics in technology from a recruiting perspective, however as a non-technology person I found this book painful to read and felt I learned very little from it.
Each chapter inundates the reader with acronyms and tedious lists of all possible aspects of a topic. For instance, there is a chapter on SAP ERP programs that lists out every single possible ERP application suit, what it does, and all of the knowledge someone working with it might need. This may seem thorough and ideal but for me all of the lists were filled with unexplained or poorly explained acronyms and certifications necessary for the job. Chapters like this made me feel overwhelmed and confused.
Likewise, the organization of the book could use some work. The author makes numerous references to different kinds of certifications throughout the book but saves the chapter explaining each certification for the very end.
I was required to read this for a new job as an IT recruiter and I have plans to purchase another "IT made simple" type of book because this one just didn't cut it for me.

It needs to be updated

I felt this was a great first step to getting technical info but needed SO MUCH MORE. In some places, it was outstanding with her ability to show metaphors that you can understand but in some places I felt like I was reading the same sentance over and over and going "huh?" I also work with Django, ios (android, etc.) and python stuff and there is no mention of that. Not her fault as it is newer technology but that is what is CURRENTLY hot with our business so I am on my own for what my needs were. However, for the only book out there of its kind, I was pretty happy to find it.

The book was recommended by one of my collegues in the technical recruiting arena. I purchased the book to be used as a referance in learning new technology and how the environments and software products fit together. It is a great book for a person who is a new recruiter in the IT field. There are so many acronyms and strange words thrown at them, it takes a book to help them understand exactly what the words mean and it helps them to understand how the products are used in an IT department. The book covers everything from the Operating Systems, Methodologies, Databases, Programming languages and the environment software around the products. Excellent Book!
