Not just for "angry" people, and not just for kids- this book helped me!

This book starts from the ground up, letting us know that even if we don't necessarily label ourselves or our kids as "angry", we may have some areas that we don't handle in a proper biblical fashion. Explaining that anger issues stem from hurt feelings/frustrations that aren't properly dealt with helps make the book feel more instructional than condemning. We all get hurt, right? How we handle it will have a long term effect. The author discusses common reactions to anger as being "Clamming up" or "Blowing up". Who can relate? I know our family can! The thing is we often clam up and forget about it, or blow up and move on, not dealing with the internal state of our heart. True forgiveness is defined and explained rationally (you won't feel like forgiving all the time, and that doesn't mean that the person didn't lose trustworthiness), and the whole tone of the book is professional, but refreshingly real & honest. You'll be given tools to help you (and your kids) identify sins in your life as defined by biblical standards, as well as what your motives are, and you are always directed to the Word of God for definitions and examples. This book handles some huge questions in a logical, loving and godly way, including how you should respond (while still remembering we are ambassadors for Christ!) when someone is disrespectful to you & how to respond if someone is attempting to manipulate you. Activities in this book are probably best done with 5+ year old kids, and they'd gain more independence as they got older as far as being able to read/understand the journaling without assistance. This book has challenged us to change the way that we react to our children's misbehaviors (we don't want to react at all, we want to respond with a biblical attitude- not easy to do when your teens rolling her eyes and your 7 year old is screaming at you from time-out), and to take more seriously the job we have as parents to teach and train our children how to handle the "upsets" in life so that they don't carry bitterness, anger, resentment, grudge-holding/unforgiveness, pouting, self-justification, blame-shifting, etc. into their adult lives as methods to cope with the problems of this world.

Understand your Audience.

'Christians' who claim this book is not Biblical simply do not study Scripture - there is no gentler way to say it. This book is written for the Christian parent... if you are not a Christian, this book will not work for you. If you are not a Christian, this book will not even appeal to you - you will not be able to dissect and utilize secular information from this book because there is no secular information in it. That said, this book has been a tremendous blessing! Christian parents everywhere highly regard this book for good reason - but it does require work as merely understanding anger does not correct it. So if you are not a Christian, or if you're too lazy to do the work, don't other buying the book just to leave a negative review.

Excellent book!

Wow, I think all parents need to read this twice. Once for themselves and then once for their kids. Kids need structure by loving parents who want what is best for them. They don't need parents who parent based on their own angry feelings (either toward their own parenting or because of their own selfishness). This provides excellent exercises for how to teach your kids to be respectful at an early age and to establish that good habit for preparation into adulthood. How I wish I would have been able to practice this as a child and to not have to figure it out on my own.

Not as good as the Waddle book

We liked the Waddle book so we decided to get this one on a lightening deal. The pictures are a lot darker in this book so it's not as easy to see the movement. It's basically just pictures of Santa doing different things. It's not very interesting. I knew there wouldn't be a story but I expected the pictures to be the same quality and as much fun as the other books.

Entrancing!

My 2 year old and 6 year old love this book and still after Christmas will sit and read it over and over. It was bought as a part of their "Christmas Eve" box and everything else in the box was tossed to the floor. The scanimation is amazing and the story is fun to read full of silly fun to say words. Definitely recommend, especially if you are looking for a Christmas book a little different from the usual.

Disappointed, not really what I expected

The publishers describe this book as "a comprehensive guide to using Sing & See [with] explanation of the on-screen visual displays". Well, not really in my opinion. Of the 292 pages, only a short handful at the beginning describe the Sing&See software. And that description doesn't go beyond saying what you can see on the screen basically. Nothing technical. If you are looking for any kind of information specific to this software, for example, how to advise students about adjusting the voice in order to change the spectrograms, look elsewhere. You will not find it in this book. Definitely "look inside" to figure out whether you need what they offer.

Wonderful additions since the third edition. I always enjoy the clarity and organization of the material. Joseph has the ability to create a path to the fine details of human movement while keeping an eye on the big picture. Excellent and highly recommended.

An excellent book for those learning about the muscular skeletal. The CD ROM that came the with the book is superb, allowing one to demonstrate each muscle in turn.
