I got this book as a gift for an artist who is now working on tattoo art. He loves the book! He disappeared for an hour at a time over Christmas to read....his parents didn't know I gave it to him....He said he was familiar with some of the artists featured & loved being able to learn more about them. The pictures were professionally done & quite lovely...even if one is not "into" tattoos on this level.

Best technical writing book ever.

I've seen a lot of (technical) writing books and most of them are just crap. You don't need a 50-page chapter to teach you how to put citations in your paper. You don't need double spaced text as if you are an elementary school student.

But this book is different. It help you focus on your your article/report/book at any level you desire from the overall organization to the proper selection of words. It gives you sophisticated advice that is actually useful and time tested.

I am an engineer, and I have used this book when writing my masters and PhD theses and a number of paper. I have used it when I wrote a patent application. My wife is a social scientist and she uses it for writing her thesis.

I have been using this book for about 10 years now, and I assure you it will improve your writing at every level. This book should be number one seller in its category.

It is an excellent book for students from all disciplines

Technical writing is essential for all university students because if they can write efficiently and express themselves well and precisely, it will be easier for them to relay their ideas to others and hence find jobs easily, write well balanced reports, and more importantly perhaps know what they are writng and talking about. The more organozed one's speech or writing is, the more effective one will be. Non-native speakers of English, however, do not think oral and written communication is that important but once they use this book in an English class under the guidance of their teachers, they ABSOLUTELY CHANGE THEIR IDEAS I recommend this book to all teachers of English teaching English at freshman or sophomore level.

Exactly what most non-native technical writers need

This book was recommended to me by a co-worker upon my request to have some help in teaching non-native writers avoid common mistakes. It's quite a tome, but the structure is excellent: the book moves from basic grammar and logic to writing specific types of documents. Most helpful to my colleagues have been chapters 25-30, which give many useful guidelines of structuring paragraphs and sentences. Almost each guideline is followed by an example from a very technical context, be it financial instruments or combustion engines.

The title appears out of print, but I would go for a used copy (that's what I did) as I have not seen another book quite like it.

a useable past

In an interview conducted before he wrote this book, Miller said, "I think memoirs, autobiography...can help to translate chaos into something that is a useable past. Give an image where there was only a blur." He suggests the kind of autobiography he would be interested in writing would be more about the time he was living rather than his life, so a reader would "come away from it somehow a little heavier than he went into it." In all of this, TIMEBENDS succeeds wonderfully. I learned a great deal more about the textures, realities and signficance of the 1930s, 40s and 50s through his observations and images than through any linear professional histories. A bonus for those who enjoy seeing and reading Miller's plays is his deliberate selection of significant events and people in his life that show up in the plays in one way or another. And he does have great stories and observations about famous people--Olivier, Clark Gable, etc.-- that are the more conventional pleasures of show biz autobios. Even if he wasn't among the most important American dramatists of our time--perhaps the most important--this book would be a significant literary accomplishment. Miller is a careful writer, so readers perhaps unused to tact and understatement in memoirs are advised to look beyond their expectations to what he actually says. Yet his chapters on Marilyn Monroe were vivid and gave me more of an impression of her as a person than anything else I've read. Miller's voice brings all of this varied material together, and so the reader might approach this book as if listening to a great storyteller. This is a book full of heart, humor, wisdom and perspectives not found elsewhere. It is a treasure and a gift.

A captivating and enchanting world I would love to hear more from!

Eeep! Another spanking new enchanting world created by the lovely Scarlett Dawn! I have this thing with NA Paranormal Romances. Together with NA Contemporary Romance it is my favorite – but I’ve only came across a handful I genuinely enjoy. The Forever Evermore series is at the very top of that list. So imagine my excitement when I heard SD was participating in a NA Paranormal anthology!

I’m usually not the biggest fan of anthologies, because short stories generally don’t do it for me. Serials are different because the story continues over several volumes. With a short story, that one (oh-so-short) story is usually what you get, and at least for me that is not enough. So after I figured that out I decided to steer clear of anthologies – unless it’s a story from an author I trust. Which is exactly why I’m reviewing this.

I loved the introduction to this story. It reminded me a lot of the world of the Forever Evermore series, and that thrilled me to no end (factions, mates, kings and queens are back!). It was an intriguing world I would very much like to hear more from in the future, even if it’s from different characters. I would like to know more about how everything works, more about the different factions and how they live. But at the same time as I felt like the surface was barely scratched, I was also happy I didn’t receive a history lesson I didn’t sign up for. I liked the way we were thrown right into it and learned as we went. But I still think there is lots more to discover and experience, and would love to read more from Valan (yeah, I don’t know how to properly use that word in a sentence…).

What we did learn is that in this world there are eight factions. Four for women and four for men. It said “one created to the likeness of the other, even though ‘matings’ didn’t always occur within a like-to-like faction”. The female factions were: Vampire, Witch, Mermaid and Valkyrie. Male factions: Demon, Warlock, Shifter and Angel. What’s cool is that they’re not as estranged from each other as the Mys factions are in the Forever Evermore series, where mixing is a huge no-no.

This story focused on Lana, who is Valkyrie, and her two love interests. Yup, we’re talking m-f-m. Fair warning – it gets intense! My favorite part of this story was the endless banter between the two love interests. They were very entertaining! The more steamy scenes didn’t hurt either.

The story turned out a lot differently that what my first impression implied (I may have only barely skimmed the blurb). In the first few chapters I got vibes comparable to a mix between the Forever Evermore series and the Dark Elements series (Jennifer L. Armentrout), but it soon turned less innocent and a whole lot raunchier (The Dark Elements is YA).

As SD’s other stories this one sucked me in immediately, and it captivated me all the way to the end. A definite enjoyable read, and I can’t say it enough: I would absolutely love to read more from this world. It’s way too intriguing for this to be it!

Unique Paranormal World

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a super quick, dirty, paranormal read. There's M/F/M action and a bit of introduction to this new world thrown in, too. Overall, I'm intrigued by the world of the Valan.

Lana is an orphan who has a drinking problem. She drinks a lot. It's mentioned a lot in the book. I'm a little conflicted about it, but she's eighteen (so I guess it's not that bad?) and has a troubled life, so she gets some leeway in the story. She's also got a bad habit of making lightning show up. Of course, this isn't normal, but she's never had any other explanation in her life until she stumbles into the world of the Valan, a unique group of all sorts of paranormals. One thing they all have in common, though, is the hunt for their mate.

While attending (and drinking... lots of drinking...), Lana ends up meeting two Kings of their respective races. They're all drawn to one another, despite their different dispositions. Somehow, these three end up finding their way together in a bit of an unconventional way even among the Valan. Lana's siren song manages to bring together the most unlikely of bedmates and even manages to show them the beauty of the human race (I think).

The book itself was a really short read with a little bit of a quickie finish at the end. Will this be a series? I kind of want to see more of this world with all its supernatural inhabitants...

Scarlet Dawn is one of my favorite authors. Her universe building skills are in a rare class with JR Ward, Christine Feehan and Sherrilyn Kenyon. I hope this is the only story we get from this universe.

LOOKING FOR LOVE !!!

Wow! I must say, I'm more than a little intrigued by It Takes Two, The Matchmaker Series by Ellie Danes. This is the second installment of the serial and it is absolutely captivating and a brilliant continuation of the story. Yes, I said serial. This is not a stand alone story so readers, please be forewarned. Personally, I love serials. It's like watching my favorite weekly TV shows and if you have Kindle Unlimited like I do, then it's good as gold. So, now having said that, back to the story. It's exciting, fascinating, intriguing, romantic, sensual and arousing. There are a few editing errors which are a little distracting but over all the story is well executed and the dialogue is well written, intelligent and flows beautifully. The characters are captivating, engaging and sexy as sin. Danes skillfully combines these elements to craft an enthralling and intoxicating read. Harper is a 24 year old grad student barely making ends meet on her part time salary. She has always been able to match up everyone but herself. She's just unlucky in love. Hopefully, this latest breakup fiasco with Jake will teach her a lesson. She always falls for the wrong guys. Maybe she's just looking in all the wrong places. And after attending a disastrous mixer with her best friend and roommate Avery, she's even more convinced that she's doomed to always meet the wrong guy. Yep, just cursed never to find love. What Harper couldn't know but hopefully will soon learn, she has been noticed by Mason Asher, the 'big cheese' of matchmakers. He's handsome, charming, wealthy and knows what he wants and usually gets it. But is his interest professional or is it personal? Well, I guess we'll have to continue reading to find out! Oh my! I can hardly wait to read Part Three and it's already available! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

The Matchmaker Series is absolutely amazing!

I am so thankful that Ellie Danes was recommended to me! "It was love at first read"

The Matchmaker Series is absolutely amazing! The story between Mason Asher and Harper Browing is sinfully delicious! Ellie does such a great job of painting the picture and setting the scene at the mansion and chemistry between Mason and Harper is absolutely explosive I mean it practically leaps off of the page. Ellie has this magical way of including the reader in the story and it makes you feel like your along for the ride and as a reader that is exactly what I look for I want to be so lost in the story that I forget everything around me and that is exactly what is achieved with this series. There is so much suspense and drama in this novella that I was on the edge of my seat and biting my nails the entire time! And goodness was it steamy I mean hot and steamy I am pretty sure at one point my glasses would have fogged up if I hadn't taken them off!

This is definitely a series that I would recommend you take the time to read I loved every second of it! I cannot wait to see what the next one holds!

Seen this in operation. It's astonishing, cheap, and it works !!!

I had the luck to visit Allan Savory's farm in Zimbabwe a couple of years and to be shown the holistic grazing technique by the man himself. In person, Allan is a hard man to like, but he is an absolute visionary and an extraordinarily effective manager of soils and animals. My entusiasm convinced my son to go work for a couple of months on Grasslands LLC ranches in Montana and South Dakota managed according to Allan's principles and confirmed that there, too, in that very different biome, holistic grazing was extraordinarily effective.

The book is a clear, easy review of what holistic grazing is, how it works, and why it matters. It also charts Allan's journey from young African ecologist to holistic grazing guru, and that alone is worth the read. Make no mistake: this kind of agroecological land management is of capital importance for our common future, and Allan deserves multiple honours for having discovered, refined, implemented and publisized it. If worries about how to feed future generations without wrecking the planet keep you awake at night, this is the book for you.

Allan Savory tells his own story, and addresses a new approach to reversing global warming . . .

A readable, attractive and personal e-book written by a genius of the rangelands, who over fifty years took the understanding of how grassland ecosystems work to a new level (and much of the rest of rangeland science has yet to catch up).

Savory explains how ruminants and their predators are essential species in grassland ecosystems, having co-evolved over millions of years. We have taken the ruminants out of grasslands in semi-arid and arid environments (which is most of them) and have watched as they slowly or rapidly degrade to deserts (which are different from true deserts). Put ruminants back and within as short a time as one year life and biodiversity miraculously begin to make a comeback, sometimes a dramatic one.

Savory tells of his own life, of his struggles of scientific discovery, his conflicts with academia, the waves of support and dismissal from governments, and how understanding the human social dynamics was essential to implementing proper grazing management and developing the theories of managing holistically.

Global warming is a recent concern in holistic management. It turns out that restoration of grasslands stores enormous amounts of carbon (it is worth noting that we have lost more carbon from abuse of soils since the advent of agriculture than from all burning of fossil fuels). So along with all the other benefits of holistic planned grazing, it holds out the possibility of mitigating and perhaps even reversing climate change.

Savory is seventy-eight years old, still traveling the world to spread the message. I highly recommend his February 2013 TED Talk, "How to fight desertification and reverse climate change." This excellent e-book grows out of that lecture, and fills in many of the details that wouldn't fit into a twenty minute presentation.

I have read Allan Savory's books for over 20 years. This book is an excellent summary of his work and is a wonderful expansion of his TED talk. Highly recommended.
