The pope's address, which seemed to have offered a new development to decades of Catholic health care ethics, sparked a contentious debate among the faithful over how best to treat permanently unconscious patients within the tenets of Catholic morality.

Unreadably Small Type

This is a review of the Kindle e-book version of this book. It is also advertised as a magazine size paper-back book, which is NOT covered by this review. The type is locked in the original printed size, unlike real Kindle books. This results in an unreadable book. I tried reading it on my MacBook Pro but, even at that size, I still couldn't read it.
Is this an authorized edition? I have never seen the publisher, Kalmbach, do such a poor job.

A very handy reference tool for the HO layout builder

Frary's book presents the construction of a model railroad layout as a step by step project, from the planning stages, through the construction process, to the operation of the finished model. Although Frary specifically models the Pennsylvania Railroad, his book is a valuable tool for the builder of any model railroad. The Pennsy Middle Division in Ho Scale is a good looking, modern book, and it offers sound techniques, good advice, and the experience of one of the hobby's most reknown craftsmen.

This a great book.

This is a great book. It has lots of excellent diagrams which clearly explain complex topics in vascular ultrasound. Dr Polak is a world famous expert on vascular ultrasound and has written numerous papers in the medical literature on vascular ultrsound. He supervises a vascular ultrsound lab and is also an invasive radiologist who uses vascular ultrasound for performing procedures such as venous access, TIPS, and thrombolysis. He has taught hundreds of physicians and technologists about vascular ultrasound at Harvard Medical School. This book covers arterial and venous ultrasound from head to toe and is highly recommended. This is the best book ever written on vascular ultrasound that I am aware of. I am a physician and supervisor of the vascular lab at my hospital.

The bible of guitar pricing

I've used this book for years for all my guitar buying and selling needs along with the Vintage Guitar Guide. My only complaint is that they have yet to add many of the smaller niche guitar makers over the years and the burgeoning market in house brands is not well covered ( Airline, Supro, etc). Otherwise it has most of the information you'll ever need. Don't take the pricing as the absolute word though, the market fluctuates a lot and prices can be dramatically above or below what is quoted in this book. Use it as a baseline and you're fine, at least you'll always know if that guitar your friend or neighbor wants to sell you is junk or of some value.

A Classic People Will Be Reading 200 Years Hence

While not viewed as fully conventional or relevant for modern US medicine, the is a classic. Elegant in it's simplicity that contends that improving O2 delivery to every cell in the body is good and necessary thing especially as we age. All backed up by real science nearly always absent (or obscured) in our US drug based treatments. Who would have thunk!

The ultimate primer for EWOT/Oxygen Multistep Therapy. While von Ardenne was most focused on curing cancer, the general parameters he set out transform very well into modern EWOT protocols with high volume delivery of O2. As a scientific paper, and one that is a little older, it is heavy reading! However, with even a little scientific background, it is possible to extrapolate the information required to make an informed decision about EWOT as a therapy, or exercise protocol. More a reference book than a weekend read!

I need better guidance and will be discussing it with my pulmonologist ...

I am not technically minded, but I have a lung condition so I wanted to read this book. It has been so inspirational for me that I began to attempt to practice this, exercising with oxygen. I need better guidance and will be discussing it with my pulmonologist on my next visit. Apparently, you can get this therapy in Germany where insurance will pay for it, at least that is what the book said. I wish U.S. doctors were more informed on other therapies besides just pharmaceuticals.

Describing the nature and causes of Latin American vigilantism, the authors explore its impact within the larger sociopolitical system and the relationship between vigilantism and political transition. Part I is devoted to citizen violence, including mob lynchings; the work of the justiceiros (self-appointed or privately employed enforcers); and citizen uprisings against the police. Part II is a discussion of death squads in Peru, Guatemala, and Colombia and their use by the state to achieve specific social or political objectives. Part III explores the debate over violence, legislative solutions, and national security. The final section examines on-duty extra-legal police violence in several countries and the contribution of U.S. police training to state-supported terror. The authors' analyses indicate that vigilantism results from and at the same time fosters authoritarian state structures whose economic dependence on foreign powers deepens the cycle of poverty, repression, and violence. An important source of data and analysis on a largely neglected topic, this work will be of interest to a general audience concerned with human rights, to policymakers and their critics, and to scholars in the fields of criminology, comparative justice, and Latin American studies.

A Must-Read!!

LIFE-CHANGING. Jesus has taken the shame and weight off of me (or should I say I finally let him). I can feel it. Yes, I cried through several of the pages, having to stop and really process my life - how and why certain things have caused me to be a people-pleaser, a perfectionist, a control freak, and pretty dang good at putting up walls and keeping people at a go-go-gadget type of arm’s length away. But the thing I realized most is that I have let shame get in the way of me and Jesus. I have been delivered - he did that for me on the cross - but I haven’t moved into the freedom that was given to me that day.

"Jesus had set me free from shame, but I had to choose to stand up and walk out of my unlocked prison cell, drop off my unshackled chains, and step into the future shame-free (p. 64)."

I've felt capped in my walk with Christ, feeling as if I'm doing well but not living to the fullest (anyone know what I mean?). It's because I haven’t been able to completely accept his love because I know my flaws extremely well. I couldn't wrap my mind around how someone would love me knowing those things? I truly hadn’t given over every “room” of my heart to him.

This book did that for me. The Holy Spirit worked through the typing on the pages, from the heart of Christine Caine. My past isn’t a weight on me unless I allow it to be. I have to choose to believe in His love for me. His power is made perfect in my weakness. He is the Redeemer and satan wants me to stay locked in the darkness of shame so I can’t live into my fullest potential. Thank the Lord (literally) that I finally picked up this book!

We live in a shame driven society but that shouldn't be the way we live our lives. As Christine says, “The world says: ‘Shame on you,’ I declare: ‘Shame off you!’” We can all live in the freedom (not solely the deliverance) of Christ, to love a broken world the way He does, and to fulfill our God-given destiny! I am a daughter of the King. I am free. I am unashamed.

If you've ever bought a self-help or spiritual book because you thought it was the answer to 'fix you' (Me!) or if you motivate yourself with one liners such as 'my best is not good enough' (Me!)... These are two of my personal examples of how shame launched for years a full on attack of my personhood, who I am. In this book, Christine Caine differentiates between shame (who I am) and guilt (what I've done). Using her own life stories, she shares the impact of shame from the abuse committed against her and how without disarming it with Truth, her purpose would have never bloomed. It's a motivational and practical read that creeps into your inner thought life and brings hope!

This book will free you! A MUST read!

This book was such a great help and inspiration! I think every woman should read it. She covers the spectrum of guilt and shame and negativity women carry with them that weighs them down from the most severe of women trafficked to being made to feel lesser than for even small things in their life that make them feel unworthy and ashamed. It is a very healing and empowering book. Things hit me the other day that tried to pull me back in that trap of guilt and shame that would have sent me into a deep spiral downward. Having read this I knew better than to swallow those poisonous thoughts and let the Spirit of God pull me out with the truth of who I am in Him!! Please get this!

Great Guide

This is one of the best Excel books I've used. The full color step-by-step guides really make navigating the new ribbon system a lot easier. I am aware of groups that hate the new menu setup, as a result of this book I've been able to get over my frustrations of adapting to a new format. I've also learned some neat shortcuts and tips that have made me quicker and much more efficient. I'm quickly becoming an office resource amongst my peers how are just muddling through without a book. I would recommend this to anyone from a novice excel user to a seasoned hand in previous versions of excel trying to find their way.

Great Book for Getting Your Feet Wet with Excel 2010

This book delivers on its promise to provide answers quickly in a visual step-by-step format. You find a topic you want information about and there is a short explanation and concise step-by-step walk through of using that topic. This is great for people getting their feet wet with Excel 2010, or for those who need a quick reminder.

The 556 pages of the book are chock full of great information. This is not an encyclopedia covering everything in Excel, which allows Johnson to maintain a professional tone and not overwhelm the reader. It would be a great help if Amazon would include the Table of Contents in the information available from its page about the book, as the Table of Contents is the most useful list of what is covered in the book.

The book is not encyclopedic, and the index/Table of Contents runs into a familiar issue in referencing topics. Page 91, for example, discusses how to display calculations with the status bar. It is a strong discussion of a very useful tool, but I'm not sure I'd look for it under "Displaying calculations with the status bar" or "automatic calculations," as the reference appears in the Index. But once you've read what Johnson has to say on the topic, the index makes sense.

Great reference book

This is a great Excel reference book. If you are familiar with older Excel versions, you will find this book very valuable when moving to 2010. Also if you are planning a migration, you will find a lot of resources, examples, and real life cases on how to do it.

The layout, colors, step by step instructions make it easy to read and enjoyable. I recommend it.
