I've found no value in this book, despite holding Laing in high esteem for his compassion toward the mentally ill and his provocative challenges to the status quo. I'm thankful that some of his other books have been of so much value to me; this one I don't get.
"Knots" consists of an opening page which suggests that the patterns that follow would correlate significantly with actual problems in human relationships, followed by the patterns themselves. However, there is no example presented of any specific real incident involving any of these "knots". There is no suggestion as to how one might avoid such "knots" if one found oneself in them. There is no reference to other works of Laing or anyone else which might provide further information about such "knots". The patterns seem more wordplay than description to me. I don't see any effective connection between these patterns and real issues I've encountered: I haven't met any Jack or Jill's nor am I aware of having been one. My little brain may spare me from constructing such complicated thought patterns; perhaps I manage to become confused on my own with much simpler ways of thinking.
I'd suggest instead reading Gregory Bateson (if you're interested in how one can get stuck by what's said in a relationship), or something else by Laing if Laing's your interest, or Peter Handke's staggering play "Kaspar" if you like to find real meaning within apparent words of nonsense, or Dr. Seuss if you like intelligent playfulness with words.

The Ten Booms were devoutly Christian and lived a simple life. The patriarch of the family ran a watch shop that had been in his family for a century. Some of the family members, the author among them, worked there; selling and repairing clocks and watches. They also lived in the house in which the shop was located.

When the Nazis occupied their country, the reality of what it meant slowly dawned upon them, as they saw the treatment given to their fellow Dutch citizens of the Jewish faith. Moved by their plight, the author at the age of fifty, together with other members of her family, including their father who was nearly eighty, became active in the Dutch underground.

When it became clear to the Ten Booms that Jews were being targeted for deportation and death, they had a false wall constructed in the author's bedroom, thereby creating a secret room. There, they would hide the terrified Jews who were staying with them, in the event of a Nazi raid upon their home.

Eventually denounced by someone to the Nazis, the Ten Booms were arrested and their home raided and torn apart by the Gestapo, in their search for the Jews they believed to be hiding there. At the time of the raid, the Ten Boom home was filled to capacity with Jews in hiding. So well concealed was the hidden room that had been created by the erection of the false wall, that these poor, terrified Jews managed to escape detection.

The Ten Boom family did not fare so well. It was upon their arrest that they learned first hand of man's inhumanity to man, and their faith was put to a test that they had never dreamt possible. It was faith, however, that sustained the author in what was to be her hour of darkest despair. To find out what happened to the Ten Booms, read this book. It is the story of an incredible family, who had the courage to put their convictions to the test.

This book is a masterpiece. The reader is sure to be captivated by the goodness and spiritual beauty contained within its pages.

For Disney Fans Old & New

As a big Disney fan (along with countless millions of others), my main concern was whether there would be enough new visual material that was not duplicated by other books. Thankfully there are, from films (both animated and live action) to disney pins, to theme parks and (as they say) much more. I'm sure that many of us can find omissions (no Figment and Dreamfinder?) but maybe there will be a Volume 2 someday.

There's also Jim Fanning's writing style. It feels more like Jim is chatting with you and that brings a warmth to this endeavor. But not to mislead you, the book is from DK and that means that you will have many more images than words so this is a book to view more than to read. The lAmazon discount makes this an easy purchase to start or add to one's Disney book collection. And the film frame from Brave is a nice touch as well.

Oh no....not another Disney book!! How many ways are there to present matters related to Disney!!?? Like all similar DK books, this one presents all facets of Disneyana in a lavishly illustrated snapshot format that even I, with my extensive collection of several hundred Disney books, found fascinating and thoroughly entertaining. DK have continued their trend in high quality 'snapshot' type compendiums and this book contains all sorts of gems that even a diehard Disney fan will say "...I never knew that!".

Colorful, but Overlooks Some Key Disney Milestones

This is a very colorful and easy-to-read Disney encyclopedia of sorts. It's hard for me not to enjoy a Disney book and for the most part I did enjoy this one. It is filled with tons of graphics and colourful pages, but for goodness sakes it overlooks some very critical events in the milestone timelines of the opening few pages. For example, not including the openings of Disney-MGM Studios in 1989 and Disney's Animal Kingdom Park in 1998 is a pretty significant oversight for a book that purports to be some sort of Disney authority. Both the writer and the editors must have been asleep at the wheel to miss those two events. So take it with a grain of salt, but it it still enjoyable to read, despite missing some critical historical elements.

This may be a thin volume, but it's an excellent source for those interested in spanking. It covers anatomy, positions, technique, and discusses spanking. It's a good basic introduction on what would seem like a simple kink, just apply hand to backside. I have purchased multiple copies of this book and I give them out to people as a way of explaining what I like and how I like it. Friendly, approachable, and informative. You may be a newbie with questions, a partner trying to express what gets you off, or even an experienced kinkster looking to broaden your skill set. This book has something for everyone.
